Description

India possesses the world's second-largest road network, extending approximately 6,372,614 km (as of 2024); this network comprises an extensive system of national highways and a high proportion of asphalt roads. Statistics reveal that over 170 road accident-related deaths occur every hour across the country, and the annual incidence of road accidents continues to rise. Data indicates that more than 40 people lose their lives every hour on the nation's highways; with an average rate of 55 accidents per hour (based solely on figures recorded in 2023), a total of 480,583 road accidents were reported. Of these incidents, 172,890 accidents proved fatal, while over 462,000 people sustained injuries. The report notes that nearly half of these accidents occur in sparsely populated or remote areas, and the primary cause for a significant number of fatalities is the failure of victims to receive timely and adequate emergency medical assistance. Consequently, a crowdfunding initiative has been launched to establish a nationwide "Emergency First Responder Network." This initiative aims to provide voluntary training to the youth across the country, thereby ensuring that accident victims receive appropriate emergency medical care in a timely manner. It is crucial to ensure that every victim receives timely pre-hospital care during the "Golden Hour." Furthermore, in instances where an ambulance is delayed, it is essential to establish nationwide volunteer teams capable of providing emergency first aid to victims until the ambulance arrives. This initiative involves issuing urgent alerts, relaying information to Emergency Response Centers, and ensuring seamless integration with network hospitals and Emergency Medical Services.
